These are two very special items for me - I wore them, inserted under my armpits, from 12/18 (surgery date) to 12/26. Each day, I had to empty them of fluid and squeeze the bulb for suction before plugging it back up. I recorded the amount of fluid each time as well.

They hurt at times - felt like my skin was pulling, or like I had ripped something. When the nurse removed them, she told me to take some deep breaths, and the feeling when she pulled them out was not like anything I’ve ever experienced before 🤢

10 Intimate, Vulnerable...

On Monday, Dec 18, I had top surgery (a double mastectomy with free nipple grafts). Since then, I haven’t been able to do much - I can’t raise my arms above my head, or lift more than 5 pounds. I’m winded in minutes. This is a photo set from my first bath since surgery - in the tub at my parents’ house, as we were also in the middle of 4 days without power. Come tenderly observe my body - what it looks like now, in the midst of transformation and discomfort, and the ache for pleasure. These shots are the most vulnerable photos I’ve taken for the site, and they’re the beginning of an ongoing doc*mentation of my experience as a nonbinary person after a life-changing surgery. These images are still, eerie, helpless, powerful, and raw. They show my limits, and my limitlessness. I hope you enjoy them, as they are incredibly important to me.
