You probably already know that on Dec. 18, I’m yeetin’ the teets. Yes, you read that right. I’m having a mastectomy - and I’ve been looking forward to it for a long, long time. This is a procedure I’m incredibly grateful to have access to, and one that will change my ability to feel safe and at home in my body for the better. That being said, recovery is going to ✨suck.✨ I’ll have to be babysat for at least 24 hours. I won’t be able to sleep laying down. I’ll have multiple follow up appointments (including one where they remove my drains… shudder). I’ll be out of work for two weeks and then on “light duty” for a few more. I won’t be lifting my arms above my head for a long time - and this is all best case scenario. If we’ve talked, you know I don’t know how to “light duty” 🤣 I’m a beast and a monster and a single mom and a behavior*l interventionist (surprise, subbies). I go all in, or I simply do not go. Normally, this level of personal reveal isn’t for me.. but I want you with me while I do this. It’s one of the single most exciting (and s**iest) things that will happen in my adult life, and I can’t think of any group of people more capable of providing the support, care and love I’ll need (and likely try to refuse 🤭). So … help me. I don’t need or want your sympathy - I want you to celebrate with me, encourage me when I’m frustrated, and know that you are first on the list of people who will share this part of my journey to living as my most authentic self.
